Under the Shadow takes place in Tehran, Iran in 1988, at the height of the Iran-Iraq war. After being denied to go back by medical school because of the political activities in the past, Shideh (Narges Rashidi) discovers her husband has been sent to the front, leaving her and her daughter Dosa struggling to exist through the raid of the enemy from the air.
